Gas Dispersion Modelling and Studies

ARC has undertaken a broad range of safety related gas dispersion studies. ARC can carry out both transient and steady state gas dispersions from both gas and liquid sources. Time varying leak sources or those with delayed shut-off can be modelled. Atmospheric boundary layer profiles are utilised to accurately model atmospheric conditions where applicable. ARC’s powerful hardware resources allow detailed representation of geometries including extensive representation of steel and pipe-work.

Some common gas dispersion studies are shown below:

  • Exhaust plume dispersion
Accurate prediction of the toxicity and temperature effects on the surroundings and personnel from turbine exhausts. Short and long term exposure limits of combined toxic gases can be studied.
  • Flammable gas leak dispersion
ARC can provide prediction of the gas plume and concentration from any leak source.
Subsequent explosion studies can be undertaken with the gas plume modelled explicitly. Please see the Fire and Explosion Assessment section for further details.
  • Toxic gas dispersion
Accurate prediction of the toxic gas plume and the effects on the surroundings and personnel. Leak sources including tanks, bunds and pipes can be modelled.
  • Turbine gas leak dispersion
ARC has extensive experience in the modelling of flammable gas leaks within turbine enclosures with forced ventilation. Turbine ventilation rates can also be modelled with a view to HSE compliance. Please see the Turbine Enclosures section for further details.
