With a strong marine background ARC has a broad range of expertise which has been used in various projects in ports and harbours. ARC has considerable experience of assessment of port operations with regard to vessel operations in confined areas and the risk of collision and has assisted ports with compliance with the UK Port Marine Safety Code and with developing management systems for meeting regulatory compliance in their undertakings. Services Hydrodynamic Modelling Safety Management Systems Collision Studies Projects ARC's consultants have undertaken safety management system development for the Ports of Belfast and Dublin as well as collision studies in harbour areas for the MoD. ARC has recently been responsible for a study into the safe operations of Ro-Ro ferries from a south coast of England port which involved elements of vessel manoeuvring simulation (conducted in conjunction with the Maritime Research Institute (MARIN) of the Netherlands) as well as hydrodynamic modelling involving CFD techniques. Project: O&M assessment of WEC Devices Client: Carbon Trust ARC has been involved in the Carbon Trust’s Marine Energy Challenge where we have conducted assessments of the Operability and Maintainability of individual Wave Energy Converter (WEC) devices. This included Availability and Reliability studies as well as costing studies of installation, operation and de-commissioning phases.
